TOTAL returns to the Dakar in 2018 with Peugeot and the new 3008DKR Maxi

The Dakar is known as the most difficult, challenging and prestigious rally motorsport event in the world. In both 2016 and 2017, Team Peugeot TOTAL was victorious with its 2008DKR and 3008DKR vehicles.

Motorsport demands that you continually evolve, so Peugeot Sport has launched the new 3008DKR Maxi, ready for the next Dakar Rally, starting on 6th January 2018. The aim is to win, with four 3008DKR Maxis entered for Sébastien Loeb, Carlos Sainz, Cyril Despres and 13 time Dakar winner Stephane Peterhansel.

The new Peugeot 3008DKR Maxi is - as the name suggests - bigger: with a wider track designed to help it conquer the gravel roads, dunes and mountains of the most famous endurance rallies in the world.

The new car is 20 centimetres wider than its illustrious predecessor, due to the suspension track on each side increasing by 10 cm. To achieve this, the upper and lower wishbones are new, as well as front and rear track rod ends and driveshafts. As a result, the stability and dynamics of the car are improved, expecting increased performance.Untitled -2

The new modifications are to help make sure the team succeed by recording its third victory in a row on an event that encompasses over 9,300kms of competitive stage miles across the toughest terrain South America, including gravel roads, sand dunes and mountains.

TOTAL is involved in providing added performance to the Peugeot Sport team. TOTAL's oils and lubricants provide engine protection during the extreme conditions and at high altitudes. Performance and reliability are essential if Team Peugeot TOTAL are to be victorious.

Participating in such a challenging event, against stiff competition, strengthens the breed (Should this be brand?). Developments found here are then directly fed back to the TOTAL Quartz team, and then into road-going vehicles. TOTAL Quartz offers exemplary performance, economy and engine durability, and it is thanks in part to TOTAL's Dakar commitment that such results will be achieved.

Bruno Famin, Peugeot Sport Director, commented:

"As soon as we crossed the finish ramp of the Dakar in January, we started to work on the next generation of car to take on this monumental challenge.

Of course, there's only one thing more difficult than winning and that's carrying on winning, against very strong opposition.

That's why our engineers have a mission to continually improve the car, using their know-how to constantly raise the level and give our drivers the best chance of success."

Team Peugeot TOTAL will be giving the remarkable new 3008DKR Maxi a competitive debut on the 2017 Silk Way Rally, which runs from Russia to China, in July as preparation for the 2018 Dakar event.
