Total UK Bitumen win prestigious ROSPA Silver Award
Health and safety is important for every organisation, which is why at Total, every division is encouraged to improve practices and procedures across the board, ensuring Total is a healthy and safe place to work.
For Total UK’s Bitumen division, their hard work has paid off — they have been presented with a Silver Award at the internationally-renowned Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Health and Safety Awards, the longest-running industry awards scheme in the UK.
The RoSPA health and safety awards
The RoSPA Awards scheme receives entries from organisations around the world and recognises achievement in health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement. RoSPA was founded in 1956 and is the UK’s chief body for the promotion of health and safety among businesses and the wider public. Previous campaigns have focused on issues as diverse as industrial health and safety, drink driving and children’s cycle safety.
Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, said:
“The RoSPA Awards are the most highly-respected in the health and safety arena, with almost 2,000 entrants every year, and allow organisations to prove excellence in the workplace, demonstrating a commitment to the wellbeing of not only employees but all those who interact with it.”
Total UK Bitumen’s prize
The team were presented with the award at a ceremony at Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel earlier last month after working to fulfil RoSPA’s stringent auditing process, which investigates all aspects of an organisation’s health and safety management systems and culture.
The prestigious award recognises Total UK Bitumen’s achievements in the field of health and safety, its in-depth approach making sure its staff, customers and contractors get home safely at the end of each working day.
What Total’s team had to say
Gemma Tinnion, Total UK Bitumen Sales Support Coordinator and health and safety committee chairperson and Anita Parkinson, Total UK Bitumen H3SEQ Specialist were delighted to win the award, saying:
“It’s an honour to receive such an award and a reflection of our continuing efforts to achieve the highest safety standards at our Preston site. Safety is our number one priority and we expect everyone entering our site to have the same ethos. We are committed to achieving a gold award next year and retaining it — “It’s just the way we do things around here!”
